Seven Steps for Packing a Bedroom by Corona Del Mar Movers
Packing is clearly the most time-consuming part of the moving process. You might get out of the time involved with packing by hiring the best Corona del Mar moving company to pack for you. But if a full-service move just isn’t in the budget right now, we’re here with some packing tips to see you through. Here are seven steps to pack one of the most important rooms in your home – your bedroom.
1.Sort through it first
Don’t even begin to start packing until you’ve sorted through all of the things in your bedroom. Start making piles of things that you no longer want or need. And set aside items that you’ll need up until the day of move – including clothes to pack in a personal suitcase for the overnight of your move.
Also, take time to set aside items that are seasonal, as they can be packed separately since they’re easy to set aside during the unpacking process.
2.Get rid of things you don’t need
Once you’ve sorted through everything in your room, it’s time to get rid of things you don’t need. Anything you haven’t worn or used in a year or more needs to go. Now is a great time to have a garage sale if you need a little extra cash. If you don’t want to put the time into that, take it all to a local secondhand store and give it away. Anything that’s no longer usable should be trashed, or taken to a secondhand store that recycles fabric into new things.
3.Use decent boxes
If you’re going to pack, do it right. Specialized boxes help you do this. Hanging wardrobe boxes make packing easier, and they’re great for transporting formalwear and business attire – or anything else you don’t want to be wrinkled.
For other clothes, invest in high-quality medium-sized boxes. They’re usually wide enough to accommodate a hanger. So you can leave clothes on hangers, and just fold clothes down into the boxes, still on the hanger. This makes it much easier to unpack when it’s time to do this.
4.Leave dressers packed
If your dressers aren’t too heavy when they’re full of clothes, you can often get away with leaving them packed. Just use heavy plastic to wrap the drawers shut before you go this route. If you and one other person can comfortably lift the dresser, don’t worry about taking stuff out of it. Just be sure the drawers and doors won’t swing open during the moving process.
5.Get a mattress bag
Your mattress is probably one of the biggest investments in your bedroom. So you don’t want it to get ripped or dirty during the moving process. Corona del Mar movers often sell mattress bags, which are made of thick plastic to protect your mattress during the move. With a mattress bag, you don’t have to worry about the mattress getting dirty or damaged during the moving process.
6.Keep valuables with you
For the most part, moving companies will have policies against transporting especially valuable items in the moving van, unless you buy a separate insurance policy. The easiest way around this is to simply keep your valuables with you. Set aside a special box for valuable items like jewelry, and plan to pack that in your personal vehicle during the move.
7.Clean as you go
One piece of moving that people often forget about is cleaning. But chances are, you’ll need to leave your home in relatively clean condition when you leave on moving day. So it’s a good idea to clean as you’re packing, so that you’ve got less to do when it comes to moving day.
The easiest way to pack your bedroom is to pay your Corona del Mar moving company to do it for you, as they can get the job done quickly and efficiently. But if you can’t afford this option, use these tips to pack your own home, and check out our other tips for the other rooms of your home.
